Board Names Leaders to Prepare for the 10th Anniversary Celebration in 2018

LHCG 10th Anniversary 2008-2018

Next year will mark the tenth anniversary of the founding of Lake Highlands Community Garden. The LHCG Board of Directors has named two veteran gardeners to chair special efforts to mark the occasion with a public event and educational programs.

Ann West
Ann West

Ann West, a gardener since 2014 in Plot 41, has been named chairperson for the Tenth Anniversary celebration tentatively set for April 8, 2018.

Ann Allen
Ann Allen

Ann Allen, a gardener since 2014 in Plot 87, has been named chairperson for the identification, cataloging, and educational promotion of the native plants in the unique Rain Garden at LHCG.

The election of the two gardeners provides the leadership for what will be an historic public event in Dallas’ community garden history. The Board hopes to recognize the visionary pioneering effort of Dallasites and the City of Dallas to bring an urban community garden to the inner city.

The team of “Ann(s)”, the Board noted, are talented professional business women with strong leadership skills and devotion to our gardening community. They immediately and enthusiastically responded  to the Board’s call for a singular leadership contribution to help with the planning and organizing.  Others offered to help the leaders. If you want to be on one of their teams, let us know.

More than 300 persons have been involved as plot gardeners since 2008, when LHCG was founded by a small neighborhood group in Lake Highlands. They asked the City of Dallas to allow them to garden a vacant area of the old Texas National Guard Armory site on Goforth. Literally hundreds of other volunteers have helped in the garden on a part-time basis over the years.
