LAKE HIGHLANDS COMMUNITY GARDEN
DALLAS IS GARDENING, INC- 2012 GARDENERS AGREEMENT
MISSION STATEMENT: “The mission of Dallas is Gardening, Inc, is to strengthen and support organic community gardening efforts through the promotion of sustainable practices, responsible environmental stewardship, education and community service.”
· I will pay $____which goes into a general fund to pay garden expenses. (dues amount determined by plot size)
· I understand that a special assessment may be made on a quarterly basis to cover additional garden costs. The annual total of the special assessment will not exceed my annual plot fee.
· I will take responsibility for my plot upon signing this agreement.
· I will plant a cover crop or mulch my bed at any time I am not actively growing crops.
· I will maintain my plot and keep weeds and Bermuda Grass under control.
· I will help maintain the pathways around my plot and all common areas of the garden. Garden Management may assess fines if I do not comply.
· If my plot becomes unruly, I will clean it up when requested by Garden Management. If it is not cleaned up within 15 days of this request, I understand that my plot will be deemed abandoned.
· I will not allow produce to rot in my plot and will consider donating unneeded produce to the Donation Garden program.
· I will keep trash, litter, broken furniture and bottles out of my plot.
· I will volunteer a minimum of 12 hours during the year for general garden maintenance and participate in at least one work day.
· I will not plant any illegal or invasive plants in my garden. (See TxInvasives.org)
· I will not pick anyone else’s crops without their permission.
· I will be responsible for the supervision and safety of children and pets brought to the garden.
· I understand that any permanent improvements that I make to my plot become the property of Dallas is Gardening, dba, Lake Highlands Community Garden. These would include soil and amendments, raised bedding and permanent plumbing.
· I understand that this is an organic garden.
· I will not use any chemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides.
· I will not use pressure treated lumber in my plot.
Community Service
· I understand that part of my commitment to the Community Garden is the required 12 hours community service during the year for general garden maintenance AND
· This commitment includes serving on one of the garden committees or Board. (the areas of involvement that I may be involved with are listed below on page 2)
· I understand that if I do not plant and do not maintain my plot, it will be re-assigned to another gardener.
· Abandonment is defined as no activity for a four week period. At any time I am not growing crops, the plot must be cleared of dead crops and covered with mulch or a cover crop.
· I understand that I will be given one notice of an abandonment action. If I do not respond within 15 days, my plot will be deemed abandoned.
· I am personally responsible for my actions in the garden.
· The garden is a natural environment; I understand that there is a risk of bee stings, insect bites and contact with poison ivy.
· I will not wear open-toed shoes in the garden.
I understand that the City of Dallas, and Dallas is Gardening, Inc, dba Lake Highlands Community Garden, have no responsibility for my actions or the actions of other gardeners in the Lake Highlands Community Garden.
I THEREFORE AGREE TO HOLD HARMLESS THE GARDEN ORGANIZERS, THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF DALLAS IS GARDENING, INC, AND THE OWNERS OF THE LAND FROM ANY PERSONAL INJURIES, LIABILITY, DAMAGE, LOSS OR CLAIM OF ANY KIND OR CHARACTER
THAT OCCURS IN CONNECTION WITH THE USE OF THE GARDEN BY ME OR ANY OF MY GUESTS OR OTHER PERSONS USING OR VISITING THE GARDEN WITH MY CONSENT/PERMISSION. BY MY SIGNATURE, I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THIS DOCUMENT.
