Blue Morpho Tropical    EXCITING NEWS…
BUTTERFLY GARDEN COMING TO LHCG

We are excited to announce that we are building our own butterfly garden at
Lake Highlands Community Garden

It will replace the ugly PIT in the middle of the parking lot and eventually
turn that location into a great place for butterflies, kids and gardeners.
A few of the benefits of a Butterfly Garden are...

·  Butterfly gardens are a small sample of the surrounding habitat that provide a safe haven for butterflies
and other wildlife to gather, seek shelter, acquire food and water, reproduce and build populations,
·
The garden will use native and hardy drought tolerant plants,
·
Healthy butterfly populations attract and sustain healthy populations of beneficial insects/organism which

help control garden pests,
·
Wildlife is attracted not only  for enjoyment but observation, study and photography,
·  The therapeutic benefits of a soothing retreat and the wonderful aromatherapy from the many herbs that
are needed as host or nectar plants.

We are working with Randy Johnson, horticularist at the Texas Discovery Gardens to receive certification
as a Butterfly Habitat.
